Privacy Policy

1. Introduction and Scope

Join Together Northern Nevada (“JTNN,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Nevada nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) organization based in Reno, Nevada. JTNN is a substance misuse prevention coalition serving Washoe County, bringing together schools, agencies, businesses, government, and residents to deliver evidence-based prevention education and connect the community to behavioral health resources.

This Privacy Policy explains how JTNN collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you visit jtnn.org (the “Site”), sign up for our newsletter, contact us, apply to volunteer, donate, or otherwise interact with us online. It applies to jtnn.org only.

Scope note: JTNN also supports a separate, youth-focused program site, Nevada Grows (youth.jtnn.org). That site is operated independently, collects its own program-applicant information, and is governed by its own privacy notice. This Privacy Policy does not cover youth.jtnn.org or any other third-party or affiliated site you may reach through links on jtnn.org.

By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

We may collect the following information when you interact with the Site:

  • Name, email address, phone number, and message content submitted through our “Get In Touch” / contact form (covering general questions, media inquiries, careers, and volunteer interest)
  • Email address, if you subscribe to our newsletter
  • Information you provide if you apply to volunteer with JTNN, including information collected as part of a volunteer background check (this is generally collected by phone or through a background-check provider rather than through a web form, but is described here for transparency)
  • Information you provide if you donate. Donations are processed entirely through PayPal’s hosted donation page — JTNN receives only your name, email address, and donation amount as provided to us by PayPal. We do not collect or store your payment card or bank account details
  • Information you provide if you register for an event through a third-party registration or ticketing platform (for example, Whova), which is collected by that platform and shared with us as the event organizer
  • Any other information you choose to include in a message to us, including information of a personal or sensitive nature. We treat the contents of visitor messages as confidential and use them only to respond to your inquiry

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, the Site automatically collects certain technical information when you visit, including:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location
  • Browser type, version, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent on each page, and referring URL
  • Date and time of visit
  • Cookies and similar technologies, some of which are only set after you provide consent through our cookie banner (see Section 7)


We use the following analytics and advertising tools:

  • Google Analytics — collects information about how visitors use the Site (pages viewed, session duration, device and browser type, approximate location) to help us understand and improve Site performance
  • Google Ads — uses cookies to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns and to show JTNN ads to you or similar audiences on other websites within the Google network (remarketing/retargeting)
  • Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram) — collects information about pages you visit and actions you take on the Site to help us measure and improve the performance of our Meta advertising campaigns, and to build custom or lookalike audiences for ads on Facebook and Instagram. 2.3 Information From Third-Party Services

Certain features of the Site rely on third-party services, which may independently collect information governed by their own privacy policies:

  • PayPal — processes all donations made through the Site
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads — as described in Section 2.2
  • Meta Pixel — as described in Section 2.2
  • Microsoft Forms — hosts optional educational quizzes linked from our Resources page (for example, substance-education quizzes for teens and educators)
  • YouTube / Google — hosts videos embedded or linked throughout the Site
  • Social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube) — linked from the Site’s header and footer
  • Event registration or conference platforms (for example, Whova) — used for specific JTNN-hosted events

3. Children and Minors’ Privacy

JTNN’s mission centers on substance misuse prevention education, and some Resources page content — including short educational quizzes on topics such as alcohol, vaping, marijuana, and prescription drugs — is intended for teen audiences, often accessed through schools.

jtnn.org itself is not directed to children under 13, and JTNN does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through the Site. The quizzes referenced above are hosted on Microsoft Forms, not on jtnn.org; any information submitted through those quizzes is governed by Microsoft’s own privacy statement, not this Policy. We encourage parents, guardians, and educators supervising a minor’s use of these tools to review Microsoft’s privacy statement.

Our related youth peer-education program, Nevada Grows, operates at youth.jtnn.org as a separate website with its own privacy notice and its own Microsoft Forms application for prospective teen peer educators. That data collection is not covered by this Privacy Policy. Visitors should review the Nevada Grows site directly for details on how peer-educator applicant information is collected and used.

If a parent or guardian believes a child under 13 has submitted personal information directly through jtnn.org without consent, please contact us using Section 14 and we will promptly delete it.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to questions, media inquiries, career inquiries, and volunteer or partnership interest submitted through the Site
  • Process and acknowledge donations
  • Send our newsletter to subscribers who opt in, and allow subscribers to unsubscribe at any time
  • Coordinate events, trainings, and coalition activities
  • Measure and improve our website and advertising performance using Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Meta Pixel, where you have consented to these cookies
  • Evaluate our prevention programs and report on outcomes to funders, partners, and government agencies — this reporting uses aggregate or de-identified data wherever possible
  • Maintain the security, integrity, and functionality of the Site
  • Comply with applicable law and respond to legal process

5. How We Share Your Information

JTNN does not sell personal information for money. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • With service providers who help us operate the Site and our programs, such as our web host, email/newsletter platform, PayPal (for donation processing), Microsoft (for linked quiz tools), and volunteer background-check providers
  • With Google (Analytics and Ads) and Meta, through cookies and pixels, for website analytics and advertising measurement — only where you have consented through our cookie banner (see Section 7); see Section 10 for how this may be treated under state privacy law
  • With funders, government agencies (such as the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health or SAMHSA), and research partners, generally in aggregate or de-identified form as part of grant and program-evaluation reporting
  • When required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the safety of any person
  • In connection with a merger, reorganization, or transfer of JTNN’s operations, subject to continued protection of personal information under a policy at least as protective as this one
  • With your consent, or at your direction

6. Third-Party Services and Links

The Site links to, and embeds content or code from, third-party services that operate under their own privacy policies, which JTNN does not control:

  • PayPal — donation processing
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads — site analytics and advertising
  • Meta Pixel — advertising measurement and audience building
  • Microsoft Forms — educational quizzes and program applications
  • YouTube / Google — embedded videos
  • Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter — social media
  • Whova or similar platforms — event registration
  • External resource links (for example, the CDC, SAMHSA, and university research pages) referenced throughout our Resources and Evaluation and Data sections

We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site or service before providing information to it.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site, which runs on WordPress, uses the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential/functional cookies — support core site functionality, such as remembering your session and displaying content correctly. These are used automatically and do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — help us understand how visitors use the Site
  • Advertising cookies (Google Ads and Meta Pixel) — used for remarketing/retargeting (showing JTNN ads to past visitors on other sites), measuring ad performance, and building custom or lookalike audiences for advertising


Cookie consent banner: When you first visit the Site, a cookie banner lets you choose which categories of non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) to allow. Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Meta Pixel cookies are not set until you provide consent through this banner.


Additional opt-out tools:

Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies through their own settings, though doing so may affect Site functionality.

8. Data Retention

  • Contact and volunteer-interest form submissions: retained for [INSERT RETENTION PERIOD]
  • Newsletter subscriber emails: retained until you unsubscribe
  • Donation records: retained in accordance with standard nonprofit financial recordkeeping practices (commonly seven years, consistent with IRS recordkeeping guidance) — confirm JTNN’s specific policy: [INSERT RETENTION PERIOD]

When information is no longer needed for the purposes described in this Policy, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If you need to share sensitive or time-sensitive information, please call our office at (775) 324-7557 rather than submitting it through the contact form.

10. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

JTNN is a Nevada nonprofit corporation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) generally applies to for-profit “businesses” as that term is defined by California law, and Nevada’s online privacy notice statute (NRS 603A.300–.360) applies to “operators” running websites for commercial purposes. Because JTNN is a nonprofit that does not sell goods or services or operate the Site for commercial purposes, these laws likely do not apply to JTNN’s operations as a strict legal matter.

Nonetheless, as a matter of good practice and respect for our site visitors, JTNN voluntarily extends the following privacy principles — modeled on the CCPA/CPRA and Nevada’s online privacy law — to all visitors, regardless of where they live:

  • Right to know what personal information we have collected about you and how it has been used and shared
  • Right to request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to legal or operational exceptions (for example, donation records we must retain for accounting purposes)
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • Right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. JTNN does not sell personal information for money. However, our use of Google Ads and Meta Pixel involves sharing browsing data with those companies for advertising purposes, which some state laws define broadly enough to be treated as a “sale” or “share.” You can decline this sharing at any time through our cookie banner (Section 7), or by contacting us directly
  • Right to be free from discrimination for exercising any of these choices

To exercise any of these voluntary rights, contact us using the information in Section 14. Because these rights are extended voluntarily rather than under a legal mandate, our response timelines may vary, but we will make reasonable efforts to respond promptly.

11. European Economic Area (EEA) Visitors

JTNN operates exclusively in Washoe County, Nevada, and does not direct its programs or marketing toward residents of the European Economic Area (EEA). Because the Site is nonetheless publicly accessible, this section addresses occasional visitors from the EEA.

Where GDPR applies to information collected from EEA visitors, JTNN relies on the following legal bases: your consent, obtained through our cookie banner, for analytics and advertising cookies (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel); your consent for the contact form and newsletter; our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site; and compliance with legal obligations where applicable. Non-essential cookies are not set for any visitor until consent is given through the banner, and you may withdraw consent at any time using the mechanism described in Section 7.

EEA visitors may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of their personal information, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us using Section 14. EEA visitors may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority; a list is available at https://edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/board/members_en.

12. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. The Site does not currently respond differently to browsers with DNT enabled, as there is no common industry standard for interpreting these signals. Regardless of DNT settings, non-essential analytics and advertising cookies are governed by the consent choices you make in our cookie banner.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Site, or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
