Prevention works when it’s measured. JTNN evaluates programs and publishes county-level data so that schools, agencies, funders, and residents can see where the need is and what’s changing. This work follows federal reporting guidelines.
Comprehensive Community Prevention Plan
Our roadmap for Washoe County.
The CCPP is JTNN’s core planning and evaluation document. Produced with a professional evaluator, it combines survey data, key informant interviews, and focus group analysis into a clear, plain-language picture of substance misuse prevention needs in Washoe County.

Youth Risk Behavior Survey
How do we use it?
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) asks Washoe County middle and high school students about health behaviors, including substance use, mental health, and adverse childhood experiences. The University of Nevada, Reno publishes the results every two years, with reports for Washoe County, Clark County, and the state. JTNN uses YRBS data to target programming and to measure change. If 16.9% of high school students reported vaping in the last 30 days, we set a goal to lower that number and build programming to match. Between the 2023 and 2025 surveys, reported use among Washoe County students dropped by nearly two percentage points on several measures. YRBS data also supports every grant we write.

Statewide Data
Prevention beyond our county.
Nevada Essentials for Childhood (NV EfC) is a CDC-funded partnership between the UNR School of Public Health and UNLV’s Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy. It collects statewide data on adverse and positive childhood experiences and works with communities on upstream prevention. Nevada is one of twelve states in the CDC’s five-year cooperative agreement.
Community Assessment
Over 20 years of county research.
The JTNN Community Assessment provides reliable county-level data on behaviors, protective factors, and perceived risks of commonly used substances to better understand the substance misuse prevention needs of Washoe County residents.
